Grind

How do you choose the right coffee grind?

There is no single best grind — only the one that fits your brewer. A short guide linking each option on the form to a real brewing method.

The only rule: the grind follows the brewer

No grind is better than another in the abstract; there is only the one that fits the device you brew with. That is why the loose order form asks for the grind instead of assuming it, and we grind your order to the level you choose.

What grind should Turkish coffee use?

Turkish coffee uses a powder-fine grind because the grounds remain in the cup rather than passing through a filter. When ordering, say that you use a cezve instead of relying on the word ‘fine’ alone.

If you use a home grinder, do not copy a universal dial number from the internet. Numbered settings differ between models; the grinder-settings guide explains how to turn your own dial into a repeatable starting point.

What about Arabic coffee grinding?

Arabic coffee does not have one universal grind across every country and household. Some Libyan pot methods use a very fine grind close to Turkish coffee, while other Arabic traditions use different roasting and grinding choices. Describe the actual pot and method before choosing the grind.

Does cardamom change the coffee grind?

Adding cardamom does not by itself change the coffee particle size needed for the brewer. Choose grind for the cezve, filter or machine, then treat plain or cardamom as a separate flavour choice.

The three levels and where they fit

These are the names on the form, and the familiar brewing methods behind them:

  • Powder-fine for a Turkish cezve; Arabic methods vary, so describe your actual brewer.
  • Medium: for filter coffee and home drip machines.
  • Coarse: for a French press.
  • Espresso machine: that grind is dialled in on the machine itself; mention the machine in the notes so we can agree on what suits it.

If you do not know the name of the level

Choose “Unspecified” and write your brewer in the notes: cezve, filter, French press, or machine. Naming the device is more precise than naming the grind, and we contact you before preparing the order if anything needs clarifying.

When there is nothing to choose

Alkief packages in 125 g and 250 g arrive in a standard grind, so a package order has no grind field at all. If you want a particular level, order Alkief Blend — or any other blend — by weight.

All four blends can be ordered loose with a grind choice: Classic, Alkief plain or with cardamom, Dark and Espresso.

If the household brews two ways

One grind cannot serve two methods properly. It is better to order two weights at two different levels on the same request than to compromise between them.

Available weights are 125 g, 250 g, 500 g and 1 kg, or a custom weight from 100 g to 10 kg per item.

For cafés and restaurants

Coffee supplied by weight is ground to suit how you brew. Name the equipment and your expected volume on the supply enquiry, and the rest of the practical questions are in the guide to choosing a coffee supplier.

Before you send the order

Four fields are enough for an accurate request:

  • Blend: Classic, Alkief plain or with cardamom, Dark, or Espresso.
  • Format: a 125 g or 250 g package, or by weight.
  • Weight: 125 g, 250 g, 500 g, 1 kg, or a custom weight.
  • Grind: fine, medium, coarse, or unspecified.
